GH 534: Diabetes: A Model for Global Non-communicable Disease Prevention and Control

The public health challenges of dealing with diabetes are unique. By the end of the course, students will be able to: (a) identify the major public health issues related to diabetes in the United States and internationally; (b) identify relevant documents, agencies, organization, and programs related to diabetes; (c) understand the epidemiology, risk factors, complications of diabetes, and public health burden; (d) understand health economics, quality of care, and translation research as it applies to diabetes; (e) understand the potential for preventing diabetes and its complications; and (f) cite case examples of the interrelatedness of public health, diabetes and other major chronic diseases. Students should have basic knowledge of epidemiology to enroll in this course
