Bus 504: An Introduction of Business of Healthcare

This course will provide students with an overview of the current structure of the healthcare industry and an understanding of the complex inter-relationships among the participants in the industry. The course will explore the fundamental business models used by different participants; including providers, innovators, insurers, employers, and government regulators. Students will become familiar with the economic incentives, the competitive structure, and the sector specific issues that must be addressed for organizations to create value in the U.S. healthcare system. Students will leave the course with the background to frame the important questions required to evaluate potential business strategies in each of the key sectors of the US healthcare industry.
